Poultney has it going on: A vibrant Main Street, an energetic Arts movement, abundant natural resources, and a robust commitment to local sourcing. The dedicated work of the Downtown Revitalization Committee helps to keep this momentum strong.

It is because of forward-thinking folks like yourself that the work of the PDRC can perpetuate the initiatives of our great downtown.

Projects from 2015 include:

  • Renewed our membership with the State Downtown Program, giving Downtown businesses access to tax credits and giving community organizations a leg up on state and regional grant applications;
  • Provided funds toward pedestrian-friendly crosswalks on Main Street to match the recent paving project by the Village of Poultney;
  • Carried out (another!) year of Downtown beautification with seasonal flower baskets, beds and holiday lights;
  • Embark on an Artist-In-Residence project for Slate Sentinels as a Gateway to Main Street with local artist Kerry O’Furlani;
  • Supported the efforts of Stone Valley Community Arts organization, a 501(c)3;
  • Hosted a forum with the Vermont Tourism Department as part of a sustained effort to get Poultney “on-the-map” as a Vermont destination; and,
  • Launched PoultneyDowntown.com, providing technical resources for downtown businesses and community organizations.

Exciting plans for 2016 consist of:

  • Obtain a grant for sidewalk connectivity from the recently restored Meeting House on Bentley Ave. to Maple Street;
  • Be a partner in the on-going development of the upcoming Slate Valley Bike Trail (Check it out at slatevalleytrails.org)
  • Increase our commitment to current projects of distinction throughout town; and,
  • Establish a competitive micro-grant opportunity for Downtown businesses wishing to expand their offerings and employment base or to improve the condition of their historic buildings;
  • Support the expansion of the Poultney Public Library, a vital part of Downtown Poultney;
  • Continue beautification projects along Main Street and side streets;
  • Continue to support businesses and income producing properties with access to State and Federal Tax Credits, technical assistance, and signage support,
