Vermont Council on Rural Development Community Visit

In 2002, Poultney residents worked with the Vermont Council on Rural Development to set community priorities, focusing on youth programs, economic development, and downtown revitalization. Installation of new benches along Main Street and the creation of a rain garden at Poultney High School improved downtown aesthetics and environmental sustainability.

The PDRC implemented pedestrian safety signage, installed bike racks, and added trash receptacles to promote a more walkable and bike-friendly downtown.

Poultney 2020 Initiative

In collaboration with Green Mountain College, the PDRC initiated Poultney 2020, a strategic planning effort to revitalize community spirit and set in motion several high-priority projects identified by residents.

Main Street Banners
Main Street Banners

New banners were designed and installed to showcase year-round events and enhance the visual appeal of Main Street.

Slate Sentinel Gateway
Slate Sentinel Gateway

Stone Valley Arts commemorated the 200th anniversary of its historic building with events including live music and the unveiling of a historic marker.

The Vermont Downtown Board approved Poultney’s application to renew its downtown designation, affirming the town’s commitment to revitalization efforts.

Poultney received a grant from the Outdoor Recreation Roundtable to develop redevelopment scenarios and architectural renderings for a new outdoor recreation hub on the Town Garage property, advancing the Town to Trails objectives.
