The Poultney Comes Together Report and Action Plan, published in August 2019, outlines a community-driven initiative launched in response to the closure of Green Mountain College. Over 200 residents convened to identify strategies for revitalizing Poultney’s economy and community life. Facilitated by the Vermont Council on Rural Development, the process led to the formation of five key task forces, each focusing on a strategic priority:

  1. Expanding Outdoor Recreation – Leveraging Poultney’s natural assets to boost trails, biking, and outdoor activities as economic drivers.

  2. Developing a Co-Working Space and Business Incubator – Creating opportunities for startups and attracting new residents by fostering entrepreneurship.

  3. Establishing a Local Bank – Enhancing financial services to support local businesses and residents.

  4. Improving Broadband Infrastructure – Upgrading internet connectivity to meet modern demands and support remote work.

  5. Revitalizing Downtown Poultney – Enhancing the downtown area to attract visitors and improve quality of life.

Each task force comprises local leaders and community members committed to implementing these initiatives. The report emphasizes collaborative efforts between residents, town officials, and external partners to achieve these goals, aiming to foster a resilient and vibrant future for Poultney.
